Add Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras to Alta Video

Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras are designed to be easy to add to your Avigilon Alta cloud-based video security solution.

You can add your Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras to Alta Video either before you unbox the camera (by using the Config port in the box), or after the camera has been mounted.

By connecting to Alta Video Cloud using encrypted TLS, your Avigilon Alta cameras communicate securely with Alta Video. To control local access to the cameras, Alta Video sets a username and strong password when it first connects to the camera.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you have a Power over Ethernet (PoE) connection to the intended installation site for the Avigilon Alta camera. The PoE connection must have access to the internet.
  • You also need an Alta Video deployment. Speak to your Alta Security sales contact for more details.
  • Additionally, consider the following before adding the Avigilon Alta camera to Alta Video:
    • The name to be assigned to the camera (optional). This name is used to refer to the device from within your Alta Video deployment.
    • You have a suitable Configuration profile for the cameras. See How to: Create Configuration profiles for your devices.
    • You have a suitable Device group created.

Task — Add Avigilon Alta cameras using QR codes

  1. Choose Add tool Tools > Devices tool Devices.
  2. Click Add devices Add cameras.
  3. Click Scan Alta camera QR Code.
    If you do not have a webcam connected to the computer displaying the Alta Video user interface, you can type the Alta Key for the Avigilon Alta cameras being added.
  4. Scan the QR code for your Avigilon Alta camera.
    Depending on the Avigilon Alta camera model, the QR code is printed on the label on the camera, next to the lens under the camera cover, or on the packaging label.
  5. If you are adding several Avigilon Alta cameras, scan each in turn.
  6. Click Add.
    Alta Video checks the connection status of each camera, displaying Disconnected or Online as appropriate.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In the NAME field, enter the name to be used to refer to this device within Alta Video.
  9. From DEVICE GROUP, select the group for the camera.
  10. From LABELS, select any required labels for the camera.
    1. To create a new label, open the LABELS drop-down list and select + Create a new label. Enter a name and choose Add.
    2. A blue outline and tick indicates a label inherited from the site.
  11. From CONFIGURATION, select the required Configuration profile.
  12. Choose Done.
    Your Avigilon Alta cloud-native camera is added to your Alta Video deployment.
