Using point-of-sale integrations

Last modified: Friday September 15, 2023.

The Alta Video video management system now includes the tools to integrate with and accept data from point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Integration with POS systems requires a license for each connected POS device — speak to your Avigilon Alta Partner or Sales representative for more information.

POS integrations requires that transaction data is sent from the POS devices to Alta Video in the correct format. This can be either be directly from each from the POS devices, from a centralized POS system, or a combination of both. The POS data can be send as a webhook to Alta Video, or using HTTP POST messages sent as part of a web socket connection.

Data Protection

All information about payment cards, account or membership numbers, or other sensitive personally identifiable information must not be included in the data sent from the POS system to Alta Video.

When Alta Video receives this data, it can be combined with the views from associated cameras to provide oversight of customer interactions at the checkout. You can create Rules in Alta Video to alert your staff when specific items or when high value items are scanned at the checkout. Search enables you to look back in history for specific items or high value transactions.

Alta Video uses the concepts of:

  • POS system — the central management component for a group of POS devices.
  • POS devices — the hardware at a POS terminal: cash registers, barcode scanners, card processing systems, customer-facing displays, digital scales, and so on.
  • Messages — the data that is sent from either the POS system or the POS devices to Alta Video.

Alta Video POS integrations rely on the incoming data to be complete and correctly formatted, to provide enhanced situational awareness about your stores and customers. The Alta Video POS is not designed to be an archive of customer transactions.
