Configure the dewarp settings for third-party panoramic cameras

Last modified: Tuesday August 30, 2022.

When viewing the dewarped view from your third-party panoramic cameras, you might notice that objects (such as people or vehicles) appear distorted, looking either to be stretched or compressed.

These settings do not apply to Avigilon Ava 360 devices, as the Avigilon Ava cameras dewarp feature is optimized for the camera lenses.

Avigilon Alta provide the following dewarp options, for different lens types in your panoramic cameras:

  • Equidistant
  • Stereographic dewarp

Setting the correct dewarp option for your specific panoramic camera is often a matter of personal preference — experiment with the settings to discover the option that you think looks best for each of your third-party panoramic cameras.

Prerequisites

To use the dewarp options, the camera must be:

  • a third-party panoramic device (not an Avigilon Ava 360),
  • set up as a panoramic device (see Work with panoramic cameras),
  • configured as a ceiling-mounted device (currently, dewarp for wall-mounted pano cameras is not supported)

Task — Define the camera as Panoramic

  1. Choose Tools Open a tool > Devices Devices.
  2. Select the camera of interest.

Use the Search for devices button search to find the camera in large lists of devices.

  3. Expand the preview view by clicking Maximize video button Maximize video.
  4. Zoom into an area of the video to see the effect of the current dewarp settings.

Select an area of the view that includes people and/or vehicles to best see the affects of the different dewarp options.

  5. From Settings, click Edit settings.
  6. Expand the Video adjustments area of Settings.
  7. Click the Video adjustments icon camera icon.
  8. Select another dewarp setting from Lens Type.
  9. Select the option that you feel gives the least distortion for your selected panoramic camera.
