About Alta Video passwords

Alta Video uses passwords for:

  • User management (signing in and out of your Alta Video deployment).
  • Securing communications between your Alta Video deployment and your cameras.
  • Securing communications between your Alta Video deployment and Avigilon Alta Cloud Connectors.

User management

Avigilon Alta Video includes several methods to allow users to securely log into the deployments. These include using:

  • Email address and password
  • Email address, password, and two-factor authentication
  • Single sign-on (SSO)
  • Sign in as a unified (Alta Access) user

For any of the options that include entering an email address and password, the requirements for the password are:

  • A minimum of 10 characters long
  • Must be reasonably secure (contains a mixture of upper case, lower case, numerals, and special characters) or must be 12 characters or more in length

The Update password dialog includes a password strength meter. We recommend ensuring that any user management passwords meet a minimum password strength of Good or preferably Strong.

Passwords for Avigilon Alta and Avigilon Ava cameras

When an Avigilon Alta or Avigilon Ava camera is first added to your Avigilon Alta Video deployment, it is automatically assigned a password of the following criteria:

  • 20 character length
  • A random mix of upper case, lower case and numerical characters

By default, the camera password is rotated daily, with a fresh password created each time. In addition, you can manually choose to rotate the device credentials at any time.

Passwords for Alta Cloud Connectors

When an Avigilon Alta Cloud Connector is first added to your Avigilon Alta Video deployment, it is automatically assigned a password of the following criteria:

  • 10 character length
  • A random mix of upper case, lower case and numerical characters

By default, the Cloud Connector password is rotated daily, with a fresh password created each time. In addition, you can manually choose to rotate the device credentials at any time.
