How to: Mute Alarm notifications

Last modified: Tuesday August 30, 2022.

On occasion, you might get many notifications from an alarm, perhaps because there is an out-of-hours event taking place in an area that has Alta Video rules configured. Rather than having to disable these rules, and then remembering to enable them after the event, you can mute all notifications from a particular alarm for a time-period you select.

The mute settings are per user, per rule, and per device. Muting an alarm only stops your own notifications. Any other users that are logged in to your Alta Video deployment will still receive notifications.

For example, if you have a rule that applies to several cameras, muting the notifications from one alarm only pauses the notifications from the camera that triggered the alarm.

Prerequisites

  • For Alarms and System events to be visible, you must have some Rules configured.

Task — Mute an Alarm from a pop-up notification

  1. When you receive a pop-up notification in the Alta Video user interface that you want to mute, click View button.
  2. Click Mute notifications.
  3. From the Mute for dropdown, select the time for the Mute to be active.
The options are 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, 24 hours, and Custom. If you select Custom, set the time and date for the muting of notifications to end.
  4. Click Ok.

Task — Mute an alarm in the Alarms tool

  1. Choose Tools Tools > Alarms Alarms.
  2. Select either Alarms, Anomalies, Access, or System.
    The relevant information is displayed.

When the number of Alarms or Events exceeds a multiple of 100, a new page is created.

For deployments with multiple configured Sites, only Alarms for the currently expanded Site are displayed.

Use Search for devices button to find the alarm or event of interest. Use Advanced search options options to filter your search results by your selected category (for example, Alarm name, Type, Camera, View, or other information used to identify the specific Alarm or Event).

  3. Click on the alarm or event of interest.
The side pane opens, with information relevant to the type of alarm or event.
  4. From General Info, click Mute.
  5. From the Mute for dropdown, select the time for the Mute to be active.
The options are 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, 24 hours, and Custom. If you select Custom, you must then set the time and date for the muting of notifications to end.
  6. Click Ok.
Notifications for this rule and the device that triggered the selected alarm are silenced for the configured time period.
