Add cameras by QR code or Alta Key
Last modified: Monday January 12, 2026.
You can easily add an Avigilon Alta cloud-native camera to Alta Video using its QR code or Alta Key. For Avigilon Ava cloud-native cameras without an Alta Key, you can use its serial number instead.
Prerequisites
- An internet-connected, power over Ethernet (PoE) connection at the camera installation site.
- An Alta Video deployment. Speak to your Avigilon Alta sales contact for more details.
Additional considerations:
- Camera names to identify the devices within your deployment.
- Configuration profiles for the cameras. See Create Configuration profiles for your devices.
- A suitable Device group. See Create Device groups.
Task — Add a camera using a QR code or Alta Key
- From the toolbar, open
>
Devices.
- Hover over
Devices and select Cameras.
- Click
Add cameras.
- Select Scan QR code.
- Scan the QR code for the camera.
- Depending on the camera model, the QR code is printed on the label on the camera, next to the lens under the camera cover, or on the packaging label.
- If you do not have a webcam connected to the computer used to access Alta Video, you can enter the Alta Key for the camera being added. If your camera does not have a clearly marked Alta Key, use its serial number.
- To add multiple cameras, scan the QR code or enter the Alta Key of each camera.
- Click Add.
Alta Video checks the connection status of each camera, displaying Offline or Online as appropriate. - Click Next.
- Enter a Name for the device.
- From Device group, select the group for the camera.
- From Labels, select any required labels for the camera.
- To create a new label, open the Labels drop-down list and select Create a new label. Enter a name and choose Add.
- A blue outline and tick indicates a label inherited from the site.
- From Configuration, select the required Configuration profile.
- Choose Done.
