Add cameras by importing a CSV file

You can use a CSV file to define and add multiple cameras to Alta Video at the same time. You can manually create a CSV file or download a template from Alta Video.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have created the import CSV file and saved it to a location accessible from the computer running Alta Video. See Create a camera import CSV file.

You can physically connect the cameras to the network before or after importing the CSV file.

Task — Add cameras using a CSV file

  1. Choose Tools Open a tool > Devices Devices.
  2. Click Add cameras Add cameras
  3. Click CSV file.
  4. Browse to the saved CSV file.
  5. Click Import.
    1. If the column headers don't match those expected by Alta Video, you are prompted to map any unexpected columns to those available in Alta Video.
    2. Alta Video automatically adds any device labels in the CSV file to your devices.
    3. Once the data has been imported, you can manually fill in any missing data, or edit the imported data. Use the Back and Next buttons to view all pages of information to check they are correct.
    4. In most cases, select Ava Aware as the MEDIA CONFIG. Only use the Camera default if the camera does not support automatic configuration by , or when you use Ava Aware alongside another video management system already connected to the camera.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select the Username and Password combination to use for the new cameras.
  8. Click Next.
    After checking that the selected Username and Password and all other information matches the relevant cameras, the devices listed in the CSV file are added to Alta Video.
