Configure credential options for your Ava cameras

Last modified: Wednesday September 28, 2022.

When Alta Video attempts to connect and communicate with your cameras, the software needs to know the username and password for each camera.

Manage the camera credentials that Alta Video uses to communicate with your Avigilon Ava cameras.

For Avigilon Ava cloud-native cameras, you can request that Alta Video generates new credentials.

For Avigilon Ava cameras connected to an Alta Cloud Connector, you can choose to request new Alta Video-generated credentials or you can define the credentials yourself.

Prerequisites

Only users with permissions to access the Devices tools can configure the Avigilon Ava camera credential options.

Task — Define the Ava camera credential configuration method

This task applies to Avigilon Ava cameras connected to Alta Cloud Connectors only.

  1. Choose Tools Open a tool > Devices Devices.
  2. Select the Avigilon Ava camera to update.
  3. Click Edit settings.
  4. Click Connection.
  5. Click View credentials to see the currently configured credentials for this Avigilon Ava camera.
  6. Click Change camera credentials to make changes to the credentials used, or the method used to control this cameras credentials.

If you cannot see the Change camera credentials option, you are either viewing an Avigilon Ava cloud-native camera or a third-party camera, for which the choice of credential configuration methods does not apply.

  7. Select your preferred credential configuration method:
    • To enable the automatic generation and rotation of camera credentials, select Rotate (to other) auto generated credentials.
    • To manually define the credentials for the selected camera, select Use static credentials and then define the Username and Password to use for this camera.
  8. Click Change.
  9. Click Done.
