Alta Video license plate recognition
Last modified: Tuesday August 22, 2023.
Alta Video includes license plate recognition (also known as LPR, Automatic Number Plate Recognition, and ANPR). LPR can be configured using suitable Avigilon Alta cloud native, Avigilon Ava, and third-party cameras.
Alta Video LPR is a licensed feature - speak to your Avigilon Alta Partner or Sales representative for more information.
By integrating LPR with the other tools available in Alta Video Cloud, you can:
- View information from LPR in Video view and Map view.
- View lists of the detected license plates in the Events tool.
- Create lists of license plates to simplify administration.
- Use rule-based detections, for example, open the entry barrier for vehicles that on an allow list.
- Trigger alarms for vehicles on a block list.
- Search for a specific vehicle, for example, to confirm that the vehicle has been seen previously, or to confirm if the vehicle is on-site.
- Carry out improved vehicle similarity searches, as the license plate is more similar than other data, for example, the color of the vehicle.
Depending on the geographical location of the cameras and systems carrying out LPR, the information extracted might need to be considered as Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or Personal Data.
Ensure that any use and storage of data extracted using Alta Video LPR complies with local laws and regulations and that you adhere to any requirements for signage and notifications needed in order to comply with those data protection rules.
