Alta Video rule types

Last modified: Thursday February 26, 2026.

Alta Video provides the tools for your to configure Security rules and System rules. Security rules are designed to respond to what your Alta Video analytics detects based on its analysis of your video and audio feeds and your system integrations. System rules are based on the state of your deployment, and reports issues with the system or with your cameras.

Security rules

You can define Security rules to inform you of detections for:

  • Access Control
  • Anomaly
  • Appearance
  • Counts
  • Line crossing
  • Loitering
  • Point-of-sale
  • Sensor
  • Sound

For each of the available types of rule, you define the criteria to create the notifications you are most interested in.

System rules

System rules provide you with feedback on your Alta Video deployment, your Alta Cloud Connectors, or your cameras. System rules are categorized as either:

  • Camera issues, including:
    • Any Camera
      • Camera connection failure (timeout after minutes)
      • Unmet retention period (days)
    • Alta Camera
      • SD card failure
      • Analytics failure
      • Camera top removed
      • Camera in Recovery mode
      • Camera not storing
      • Image health
  • System issues, such as:
    • Internal Appliance Issues
      • Cloud Connector connection issues
      • Software issues
      • Disk failures
      • Disk missing
      • Disk space
      • Audit log storage limit
    • External Connection Issues
      • Access control connection

For Camera issues, Alta Video can notify you of connection failures to any camera, or, forAvigilon Alta cameras, can notify you of specific issues.

If your deployment includes one or more Alta Cloud Connectors, System rules can notify you of issues with your Cloud Connectors.

For deployments that include integrations with external systems, System issues can notify you of connection issues to the external systems.
