Spatial awareness

Spatial awareness is a feature that allows an Avigilon camera to self-adjust to the activity in its field of view, significantly improving object detection accuracy and reducing false positives. It works by learning the expected sizes and characteristics of people at various depths and positions throughout the scene.
Spatial awareness can be enabled and disabled. Enable Spatial awareness for all compatible video analytic devices, except if:
Varying elevations: The feature does not work well if your scene includes objects moving at drastically different heights, such as shopping malls with escalators moving between floors, overhead pedestrian bridges, train platforms, hills, or underpasses.
For fields of view where only vehicles are expected, Spatial awareness provides little benefit, and training may never complete.
Obstructed views: Spatial awareness requires full-body detections. If only partial bodies are visible in the device's field of view, the learning process may never successfully complete.
For information on enabling Spatial awareness, see Configuring Camera Analytics.
Spatial awareness training is specific to each camera, and the training from each camera is not available to other cameras within your Alta Video deployment, or to Avigilon.
Spatial awareness status
The current status for the Spatial awareness of each camera is shown in Advanced analytics settings.
The possible states are:
- Training — The device is actively gathering information about the scene in its initial learning stage.
- Ongoing — The device has established a high level of object detection accuracy.
- Locked — An Administrator has manually frozen the training so no further updates are made.
Avigilon recommends locking the status once it reaches "Ongoing" to prevent further learning from decreasing effectiveness.
