Alta Video backups to CIFS

Last modified: Friday April 19, 2024.

You can configure your Avigilon Ava and Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras, as well as the cameras attached to your Alta Cloud Connectors so that your video recordings are held in a local storage system, as well as being stored on your cloud-native cameras and Alta Cloud Connectors.

To backup your video data using CIFS, you need a Alta Storage Connect license - speak to your Avigilon Partner or Sales representative for more information.

Video data is saved to your internal CIFS system unencrypted as .mp4 files, to allow it to be played back from any device. It is your responsibility to secure access to CIFS.

When configured to store locally, Alta Video uses the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol to save the video data to your local storage.

By storing your important video data to your CIFS storage, you can choose to increase your storage retention period over that available to your cloud-native cameras, as well as providing you with a fallback in the event of, for example, the microSD cards (in your cloud-native cameras) or the disks in your Cloud Connectors becoming damaged, corrupted, or being stolen.

You can choose the information to be stored to CIFS, for example, you can back up:

  • Alarms
  • Anomalies
  • Interesting video footage
  • Saved clips of Video view
  • Uninteresting video footage

Specify the times that you want these backups to occur.

Your Alta Storage Connect license does not place any retention limits on the data you store from your cameras.
