Replace a Cloud Connector

Last modified: Friday November 14, 2025.

Alta Video creates an automatic daily backup of each Alta Cloud Connector within your deployment, and stores this backup in the Alta Cloud.

In the event of a Cloud Connector failing, work with the Alta Video Support team to obtain a replacement Cloud Connector. Once you have the replacement Cloud Connector, you can restore the cloud-backup of the configuration from the failed Cloud Connector.

Prerequisites

Before starting the replacement process, the new Cloud Connector:

  • Must be temporarily added to the deployment in a different server group to the Cloud Connector being replaced.
  • Must be updated to the latest software version.

After upgrading, the new Cloud Connector must then be disconnected from the deployment.

Once this has been completed, follow the steps below to replace the Cloud connector.

  • The new Cloud Connector should be on an equivalent or better specification to the one being replaced.
  • With both the old and the new Cloud Connectors powered off, the data drives must be removed from the old Cloud Connector and fitted to the new, replacement, Cloud Connector.

Task — Replace your Cloud Connector

  1. Choose Tools Tools > System System.
  2. Select the Cloud Connector to be replaced.
  3. Ensure the Cloud Connector to be replaced has been powered off.
  4. Click Edit settings.
  5. Open the Maintenance tab.
  6. Click Replace Cloud Connector.
  7. Scan the QR code for the new Cloud Connector.
    Alternatively, enter the Alta key.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Type the name of the Cloud Connector to be replaced.
  10. Click Replace.
After a few seconds, a confirmation message is displayed.

If the replacement Cloud Connector has an older version of software installed than the previous device was using, the new Cloud Connector will automatically upgrade.
