Users tool
Last modified: Monday February 09, 2026.
The Users tool provides customizable role-based access management for your Alta Video deployment. It allows administrators to securely manage who can access the system and what they can do, using a combination of Roles (definitions of permissions) and User Groups (collections of users with shared access policies)

The Users tool
Key features
- Roles: Define granular permissions for System access, such as creating rules, and Device access, such as viewing live video. The system includes default Administrator and Operator roles, or you can create custom roles to fit specific operational needs.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Configure SAML 2.0 integrations to allow users to log in using their corporate credentials from Identity Providers (IdP) such as Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Google, or Okta.
- 2-Factor authentication (2FA): Enhance security by mandating 2FA for specific user groups, requiring a time-based code from an authenticator app in addition to a password.
- Lock access: Temporarily prevent specific users from accessing the deployment, which is useful for suspending access during vacations or for temporary contractors.
- External access: Configure limited access for RTSP stream users to allow external systems or viewers to see specific camera feeds without having full access to the Alta Video interface.
- Partner & support access: Configure "Co-manage access" settings to grant or deny Avigilon Alta Support and your certified partners access to your deployment for troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Audit Logs: Configuring user permissions and roles allows you to track configuration changes and video views by specific users in the System tool.
