Log in to the Alta camera software

The Alta camera software is installed on each Alta camera. The software is accessed by connecting to the Ethernet connection on the camera. or by connecting to the USB-C connection (Only applicable to Ava cameras, also not available on Avigilon Ava Quad).

Cameras equipped with a micro-USB connection cannot be powered by via USB, these cameras must be powered via the PoE Connector or can also be powered by the Auxiliary power connector. For more information, please see the relevant Alta camera installion guide.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have a suitable cable for your chosen connection method:

  • Using the USB-C connection (Only applicable to Ava cameras, also not available on Avigilon Ava Quad).
  • Using a Power over Ethernet (PoE) cable to connect the camera to the same network as your client computer.

  • After connection to Aware, the Alta camera software user interface is read-only. After connection, use the Aware Devices tool to make changes to camera settings or remove the device from Alta Video. See How to: Change camera settings in Alta Video

Task — Access the Avigilon Ava camera software

  1. Connect your Alta camera to your client computer.
  2. Browse to the camera using the hostname.

    If you connect the camera using the USB-C connector (not available on Avigilon Ava Quad), use the default static IP address 169.254.7.10.

    When connecting across a DHCP network, use avacam-<camera Alta Key>.local. For older cameras without a clearly marked Alta Key, use avacam-<camera serial number>.local.

    Alternatively, scan the QR code provided on the Alta camera or the box the camera shipped with, and follow the link.

    You do not need credentials for the first-time login. However, until you have created the user name and password, and logged into the camera using these credentials, the camera will not provide Onvif streams, or RTSP.

    You can also navigate to the local user interface of an Alta camera that has been connected to your Alta Video by noting the cameras' IP address, user name, and password from within Alta Video, and then browsing to the IP address for the camera.
