Ava Flex adaptive white lighting

Last modified: Tuesday January 17, 2023.

The Avigilon Ava Flex camera includes a white light illuminator, enabling the camera to capture video in color, 24 hours per day.

The lighting features an innovative adaptive system that varies the intensity of the illumination as the analytics detect objects within range. This enables the camera to provide an increased deterrent as the illuminator becomes much brighter when a person is detected in the camera field of view.

The operational modes for the illuminator are:

  • On — the illuminator is on constantly.
  • Off — the illuminator is disabled.
  • Automatic — when the camera detects low light levels, the illuminator is switched on and then switched off when there is sufficient natural light.
  • Smart — the intensity of the illuminator is varied as needed by the analytics.

In Smart mode, the illumination is adjusted to the lowest level that still enables the analytics to correctly function.

When the camera analytics detects activity, the level of illumination is increased, allowing increased detail to be seen by the camera and providing a visual deterrent.

When first powered up, for Avigilon Ava Flex cameras with software version 5.6.0 or later, the LED illuminates at 10% brightness, to indicate that the camera is receiving power and is ready to be added to an Alta Video deployment.

Once you have added the Avigilon Ava Flex camera to your deployment, the illuminator is reset to Smart mode. You can manually change these LED settings.

If you delete the Avigilon Ava Flex camera from your deployment, when provided with power, the illuminator defaults to On at 10% brightness until re-added to an Alta Video deployment.
