The Alta Video security solution
Last modified: Tuesday November 28, 2023.
The Alta Video security solution features innovative components to create a flexible cloud-based video surveillance system for the areas you want to protect.
Featuring end-to-end security, always-on video analytics, and real-time anomaly detection from all connected cameras, the Alta Video security solution can include the following components:
- Alta cameras featuring onboard, AI-powered video analytics and optionally, integrated video storage.
- Alta Video cloud-based video management system.
- Alta Cloud Connectors featuring onboard storage and AI-powered video analytics for cameras without integral storage or cloud connectivity.
Our system components are designed to follow current ONVIF and other industry standards. Cameras and devices from other manufacturers that meet these standards may also be compatible with Alta video security systems.
Alta cameras — next-generation cameras
Incorporating video feeds and audio metadata for the Alta Video video management system, Alta cameras are designed to look good, be easy to install and commission, and are suited for both indoor and outdoor use. With high-quality components, these cameras are designed to be vandal-resistant and weather-resistant.
Solving the problem of high bandwidth usage, Alta cameras use onboard AI-powered bandwidth optimization to make sure that the detail and resolution you want is available when you need it, but that you are not transmitting and storing unneeded levels of detail when you do not.
Alta cameras
Choose cameras that directly connect to your Alta Video deployment, or connect to your on-premises Alta Cloud Connector.
All Alta cameras provide AI-powered video analytics on the edge, but differ in where video data is stored. Cloud-native Alta cameras include storage within the camera. Non-cloud connected Alta cameras rely on the storage of your Alta Cloud Connector.

Always-on analytics
Traditional video surveillance systems rely on finding evidence after the fact — someone notifies you of an incident, so you search for relevant evidence.
With Alta video security systems, you move to a proactive model, where AI-powered video analytics tell you what is happening right now, with alerts and alarms to bring these events to your attention. Avigilon Alta systems are designed and built around analytics — video analytics are always available from all your Alta cameras and connected third-party cameras, and audio analytics are available (when configured) from all your Alta cameras.
Alta Video cloud-based VMS
Designed around your day-to-day work-flows, Alta Video provides the features and usability you need in your cloud-based video management system (VMS).
Built on a hardened Linux platform, cyber security is designed into the product from the start, not added as an afterthought. With two-factor authentication, and a proactive focus on ensuring the system remains as secure as possible, you can be confident in the security of your Avigilon Alta deployments.
As the administrator for your deployments, you have complete control over who can access your system — there are no default passwords, and Avigilon Alta personnel can only access your deployments if you give express permission and enable that access from within your deployment.
Alta Video mobile apps
By using the Alta Video mobile apps, you are not tied to your desk to monitor your Alta video security systems; you can still monitor your cameras, receive Alarms, and search for events whilst patrolling your sites.
The Alta Video mobile apps are available for both Android and iPhone devices.
Alta Cloud hybrid architecture
The Alta Cloud hybrid architecture includes secure provisioning for ease of setting up your Avigilon Alta system. System backups from Alta Video to Alta Cloud enable you to protect and restore your Alta Video configurations as needed.
With secure remote access to Alta Video from almost anywhere in the world, you can monitor and manage your Alta video security systems wherever you are. You can remotely view both live and recorded streams.
Alta Cloud provides the mechanism for all your Alta Video security solution components to have verified software and firmware updates readily available, ensuring you only receive genuine and approved updates.
Alta Cloud Connectors
For hybrid deployments where you are using Alta Video as your video management system, Alta Cloud Connectors enable you to simultaneously view all your cameras — whether Avigilon Alta cloud-native cameras, non-cloud-native Avigilon Ava cameras, or third-party cameras.
Alta Cloud Connectors are available in models that suite from 25 to 200 cameras per Cloud Connector. For larger deployments, additional Cloud Connectors can be added to the deployment.
Alta Cloud Connector hardware
With different models available, you can choose the hardware that best suits your current needs, knowing that you can easily expand your Alta video security systems' capabilities later by adding new clusters.
The Alta Video Cloud Connector A500 model includes the processing power required to ensure the always-on video analytics and real-time anomaly detection for up to 25 cameras. Storage options are available to meet your retention period requirements.
The Alta Video Cloud Connector A750 can process, analyze, and store the video from up to 50 cameras.
The Alta Video Cloud Connector A1100 hardware includes the processing and storage needed to run up to 75 cameras.
For larger deployments, the Alta Video Cloud Connector A2000 provides the hardware required to process and store the information from up to 100 cameras. The Alta Video Cloud Connector A3000 has the capacity to handle up to 200 cameras.
Due to the clustered deployment design, you can configure multiple Alta Cloud Connectors to work together to increase the capacity of your Alta video security systems.
Secure by design
All components in the Alta Video security solution are designed with cybersecurity in mind.
Alta cameras include the latest in next generation secure boot technologies for computer vision processing devices.
With factory-installed certificates in all Alta camera models and the Alta Video software, camera passwords set at initialization (no default credentials), and always-on encryption for all data-in-transit and stored recordings, Alta video security systems have cybersecurity built in. When using suitable cameras, you can configure the system to encrypt your video streams.
Alta Video features role-based access so that only people with the required permissions can make important configuration changes. System operators have access to the tools and features needed to make sure your staff and sites are safe from intruders and other risks.
