Create an external video viewer
Last modified: Thursday April 30, 2026.
Often, it is useful to provide a monitor that shows visitors to your premises that they are being recorded on a security system.
This is achieved in Alta Video by creating a link to the required external view, and then pointing the monitoring system to the URL and the one-time password (OTP) created by Alta Video.
You need to create one external viewer in Alta Video for each external device accessing the view. If you want to have multiple screens displaying the same view, then a separate Alta Video external viewer with a unique one-time password must be created for each display.
Prerequisites
Ensure you have already configured the view you want to display and that the view has been shared with All users. See Create your Video views
Task — Create External view
- From the toolbar, open
> Users . - Click

Add external viewer . - Select the saved view to use in the External viewer.
Only pre-configured views shared to all users can be selected for use by External viewers.
- Select the
Information layers to be displayed in the external view. - Optionally, enter any descriptive information, for example, a summery of the camera views, or the entry door name where this external view will be used.
- Copy the External URL needed to access external views from your Alta Video deployment.
Use this information to create a shortcut that can be added to each device used to display the camera views.
