Unified users and identities
Last modified: Friday December 22, 2023.
Identities
The Alta Access user model consists of namespaces and identities.
- A namespace is either a Alta Access organization or an identity provider.
- An identity consists of:
- An email address
- Any other user information
- Each identity can exist in multiple organizations.
- The same email address can belong to multiple identities, for example:
- Multiple organization namespaces accessed using a password.
- Different authentication mechanisms (G Suite, Active Directory, etc).
- Identities allow you to sign in and authenticate.
- Users are instances of an identity within an organization.
Unified DMP and Alta Access users
After unification between DMP and Alta Access, the credentials of each DMP user become an identity in the relevant Alta Access partner organization. A single unified DMP user can now exist in multiple DMP and Alta Access organizations.
SSO DMP users
We do not unify Single Sign-On (SSO) DMP users with Alta Access. SSO users continue to sign in to DMP using the existing process. Users configured for SSO within Alta Access can use SSO to sign in to their unified identity. We will migrate SSO DMP users in a future update.
