Configure the Alta Protect monitoring service

Last modified: Friday June 06, 2025.

Follow these steps to set up the Alta Protect monitoring service in the Alta Protect app.

Before you start

  1. Licensing: Ensure you have the necessary licenses and credentials to use Alta Video, Alta Protect, and the Alta Protect monitoring service.
  2. Local Compliance: The partner is the Alarm Company responsible for checking with local authorities, obtaining any required certifications, operating licenses, and site permits. See Local authority licensing and dispatches.
  3. Site location: You must set the correct geographic location and address of each site using the service. See Create Sites.
  4. Emergency contacts: You must assign at least one user as an emergency contact for each alarm zone. The user must have an address and phone number in a supported country. see Add an emergency contact to a zone.
  5. Define Alarm Zones: Set up and configure your zones within Alta Protect. See Create a new zone.
    1. If your licensing, site details, and emergency contact information are correct, and you have tested your setup, you can add the Alta Protect monitoring service when creating a new zone.
  6. Site and zone testing: Before you enable remote monitoring, it is critical to test your system setup and configuration.
    1. It is recommended not to use remote monitoring for the first 14 days of live operation to allow for configuration adjustments based on actual site usage. See Alta Protect readiness review.

Add the Alta Protect monitoring service to a zone

You enable the service by configuring the actions taken when an alarm is triggered in a zone.

  1. Select a zone and click Edit Zone > Next > ALARM ACTIONS.
  2. Turn on Automated video verification.
    1. Automatically send alarm video clips to the monitoring service for review.
  3. Turn on Remote dispatch services.
    1. Operators can request dispatch to the site for a valid alarm event.
  4. Configure your alerts:
    1. These can include sending pop-up notifications, emails (potentially with links to video footage), or triggering webhooks for different alarm phases (Pre-alarm, Alarm, Valid alarm).
    2. Emergency contacts or suitable operators should be the recipients of these alerts. Make sure recipients have the required training, system permissions, and further contact details to handle false and valid alarms. See Manage Protect users.
    3. For more information, see Alarm and arm/disarm actions.

Post-configuration monitoring

After enabling the service, the partner should monitor for false alarms and make necessary adjustments to the setup. Also monitor for high volumes of valid alarms that might exceed your current licensing agreement. See Alta Protect post-installation monitoring.
