Alta Video tools

You can access tools from the Dashboard or tool bar:

  • To open the Dashboard, click the Alta Video or partner logo in the tool bar.
  • The behavior of the tool bar depends on its mode:
    • In static mode, all tools are visible.
    • In dynamic mode, click open new tool button to open the tool list and select the required tool.
    • See the following section for more information about static and dynamic mode.

The tools you can see and access are determined by your user role permissions. See Create and edit Roles.

The static and dynamic tool menus

The tool bar has two modes:

  • Static: Every tool icon is visible in a fixed order.

  • Dynamic: You choose which tools are open and their order.

A user selects the mode when they first log in to Alta Video.

You can also change the mode in your user profile:

  • Click your user initials > Profile > Preferences > Navigational menu > Dynamic menu

Open a tool in another window

You can open a tool in another browser window by dragging it or right clicking and selecting Open in another window.

  • In static menu mode, tool open in another window icon indicates the tool is open in another window.

  • You can also open different video views in other windows. See Work with multiple views.

  • Close the window to return the tool to the main app.

Available tools

Alta video provides the following tools:

  • Video view: Organize and monitor camera feeds using AI-powered activity insights and detailed playback timelines.
  • Maps: Upload maps and add position devices to gain visual insights into site activity.
  • Search: Search by event types, descriptions, or images using AI-powered video analytics.
  • Alarms: View and manage rule alarms, system alarms, security events, anomalies, and access control events.
  • Clips: View and manage bookmarks and external links to find clips easily later.
  • Devices: Add, remove, configure, and manage cameras and other devices.
  • Rules: Create and manage alert rules based on camera detections and system events.
  • Counts: Create, manage, and monitor areas that count line-crossing events or objects in view.
  • Users: Add and remove users, edit user settings, and manage roles and permissions by user groups.
  • System: Manage your deployment settings and add Cloud Connectors.

Tool sub-menus

Many tools have sub-menus. To access sub-menus, hover over the tool icon in the tool bar.

  • Video view: Create multiple views. See Work with multiple views.
  • Alarms: View different alarm types, such as Security, System, LPR, or POS. Available options might depend on your system licenses and user permissions.
  • Devices: View different devices types, such as cameras, sensors, and speakers. The sub-tools available depend on the devices connected and your user permissions.
  • Rules: View different rules types, such as Security or System. Available options might depend on your user permissions.
  • Counts: View counts for count line-crossing events or objects in view.
